The Great White Churbuck

Filed under: Personal — Christopher Murray @ 10:48 pm

I stumbled upon David Churbuck’s blog and Bio this weekend. Fastinacting character, in real life and in print. I was especially encouraged by his blog entry just prior to starting his job at CXO. He was lamenting not being able to spend much time fishing this past summer, obviously spending long hours with the new challenges; but not regretful in the least. Rather, he was excited about the new gig and made points about why it was such a good place to be.

I feel the same. While I can understand why many people have issues with the states of transition they now experience–and especially for many of them who have been there for many years–I do not carry that baggage. Truly, I am excited and energized. I come in with open eyes and an eagerness to help drive this venture. I especially like that in this particular situation, there is not empty level of management; the managers all report to the GM, which I think is brilliant. This of course can only work when the GM himself is willing to work into the day to day activitives of his groups. But that is exactly the situation here. This keeps the GM on the pulse of his teams, and also provides his teams remarkable access and leadership in overall strategy. Incredibly powerful dynamic.

But now, I feel like I am playing with the big dogs. On a daily basis I humbly work aside people like David, and Art Jahnke and Abbie Lundberg and Janice Brand. The people who make this such a leader in the industry. It really does feel like home.
