David Churbuck Leaves CXO for Lenovo
While CXO’s decision last week to cease production of CMO magazine (a truly unfortunate decision) was indeed large news, another announcement was even more saddening to us in the online group: David Churbuck resigned his position as GM of CXO Online to join Lenovo as VP of Web Marketing.
David came to CXO last May and has, by all indications, fought many of the battles that most needed to be fought. In the end, he has us positioned to rebuild our entire content publishing infrastructure, which in turn supports better collaboration between the print and online sides of the house. As his newly appointed Director of Online Technology, I am grateful to David and hope to deserve the confidence he found in me by delivering this state-of-the-art system he envisioned.
What would not be evident to outsiders, however, is what David brought to those of us who worked for him. He gave a depressed and demoralized online team hope and leadership. Given the state of these groups at the time, this was no small feat. This was done not only through David’s superior management skills, knowledge of the industry, and just plain raw passion for all things online, but also through his energy, humour, and honest caring for his people.
As he departs, I hope David carries great pride in what he accomplished in such a short time here at CXO, and is aware as well of our deep gratitude for his forming us into such a top-notch publishing enterprise.
